High Borrans is North Tyneside Council's outdoor education centre set amidst some of the Lake District's most spectacular scenery, 3 miles from Windermere. With the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks on our doorstep we are able to offer a huge variety of activities and outdoor experiences, from canoeing on our own tarn or on the larger lakes, to ghyll scrambling and caving.

We have been providing courses since 1967, and can accommodate up to 55 people (with school groups this is 48 students and 7 staff).

50 things to try before you are 11 3/4

Have you every climbed a tree, made a den or hunted for bugs? The National Trust has just launched a campaign to try and encourage young children to get outside and really enjoy the outdoors. The new campaign is a list of 50 fantastic ways to have fun outside. How many have you tried? (Even if you are over 11 3/4 years!!)

Last minute availability - July week

Monday 2nd - Friday 6th July is now available as a full centre booking or to share with an existing small group. This is a prime summer slot so ideal for those of you with smaller groups who would like to take advantage of the July weather!

Nature deficit disorder 'damaging children'

The BBC have just published an interesting article suggesting UK children are losing contact with nature, resulting in their health and education suffering.

Fees to 2014

Fees are now published to 31st March 2014. All groups with provisional bookings up to this date now need to return booking forms to secure their courses.

Centre capacity increases to 48+7

Instead of being in hibernation this winter, we've come up with more exciting developments for you to enjoy.    We've had new windows put in to keep you warmer (and to keep our heating bills down!), the 'Orangery' (above) is now complete with a comfy sofa for some quiet contemplation, and during January we are constructing a new, ensuite bedroom!
