High Borrans is North Tyneside Council's outdoor education centre set amidst some of the Lake District's most spectacular scenery, 3 miles from Windermere. With the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks on our doorstep we are able to offer a huge variety of activities and outdoor experiences, from canoeing on our own tarn or on the larger lakes, to ghyll scrambling and caving.

We have been providing courses since 1967, and can accommodate up to 55 people (with school groups this is 48 students and 7 staff).

Summer Centre developments

Roy has been busy out in his workshop, and has once again managed to come up with some stunning additions to the grounds. You may have noticed our front door is now shining in the High Borrans signature red, and hanging flower baskets have been popping up everywhere he can find a space. Off Road - On Bike - mountain biking now offered

Get the adrenaline going, learn some new skills and ride the Lake District. New for Summer 2013, the latest venture at High Borrans is our new Off Road - On Bike programme which is already proving a run-away success.  

Cumbria Canoe Festival at High Borrans

We're delighted to be hosting this year's Cumbria Canoeing Festival here at High Borrans. The aim of the festival is to have fun, whilst also learning about the Adventure Accreditation International Paddlesport Awards. 10th, 11th and 12th April 2013 at High Borrans OEC. There will be guest speakers, canoe sessions, networking opportunities and of course a few days at High Borrans to enjoy.

Nominations for Young Leader's Award 2013 now open

The Friends of High Borrans is delighted to announce that due to the overwhelming success of the Young Leader's Award 2012, they are running another award this year. Nominations are now open for candidates form Year 10 to participate in the 2013 Award. The closing date for nominations is Wednesday 27th February.
