Thanks for a thrilling few days - I have achieved things that I never thought I would achieve. I don't want to go home (Sarah - George Stephenson High School)
Welcome to High Borrans Outdoor Education Centre
Our Centre is in a secluded location set amidst some of the Lake District's most spectacular scenery, and is only three miles from Windermere. We have been providing groups with high quality residential outdoor education packages for over 40 years, and with highly experienced Instructors, quality equipment and our own minibuses, we have tremendous flexibility to make the most of our surroundings and meet the needs of all course participants.

We have exclusive use of our own tarn which offers an excellent introduction to watersports, and our grounds are used for on-site activities such as orienteerings, ropes course and archery. We take groups out into the National parks for activities such as canoing on Windermere and Ullswater, caving in the Yorkshire Dales, rock climbing, abseiling, ghyll scrambling, and fell walking, as well as educational field work for A-Level and GCSE students.
Don't just take it from us that High Borrans is the place to be - here is a poem written by Chloe and Niamh during their visit with Wellfield Middle school in 2007:
High Borrans is so kwl
It is so fun
Gr8 activities to do
High Borrans roks
Best time of yr life
Or in the whole world
Respect each other
Respect the teachers 2
A good friend is a gr8 friend
No matter what
So when you go to High Borrans just have fun.

The Adventure Activities Licensing Service document "...and by comparison" discusses statistics of fatalities in the UK in comparison with the number of deaths caused by adventurous activities. An interesting read!

At a time when geographical issues constantly make the headlines, the Ofsted report released in January 2008 has highlighted a decline of geography provision in schools. The report also focuses on the importance of geography field work to back up classroom teaching, and here at High Borrans we provide courses for both GCSE and A-Level Geography, as well as 'taster' sessions, with topics ranging from river work to windfarms, and tourism to development.
This section is to display work or photographs from visiting groups, to remind them of their stay, and to show others what they got up to. Many school/youth group visitors keep diaries during their time at High Borrans - you can see some examples below to give a flavour of what life at the Centre is like.
